Ear Farm On Unsacred Hearts

June 26th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in live shows, reviews, unsacred hearts

Ear Farm likes not only the Unsacred Hearts‘ album, In Defense Of Fort Useless, but also their live show:

Live, they were everything I could have wanted and more. It was the sound of four guys reminding New York what it means to have a blast playing rock/punk-rock. Their show, a virtual auditory viagra for the flaccid fans I’ve come to expect at NYC club shows. Absent were ‘cool’ people with arms folded, and a serious look on their face, and in their place was an audience rocking out to The Unsacred Hearts and their guest singers, the lovely Hardtogettes.

We wholeheartedly agree.

Pitchfork Likes Asobi Seksu

June 26th, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in asobi seksu, reviews

Asobi Seksu have received an outstanding review from Pitchfork for their recently released album, Citrus. Here’s an excerpt:

Contrary to what you may see written about them, Asobi Seksu aren’t gazing at their shoes on their second album– they’re looking skyward the whole time. Yes, the guitar overload, massive reverb, and deceptively sweet vocals are all there, but this New York quartet is anything but a My Bloody Valentine retread.

Check out our own review of the album here.

The Day After: FRICTION

June 23rd, 2006 | 2 Comments | Posted in parties, the big sleep, unsacred hearts

Friction

Those Crackers United folks sure know how to book a bill. Last night’s FRICTION was quite the show. Two of our favorite bands, Unsacred Hearts and The Big Sleep, played stellar sets. We were especially excited to hear a new Hearts song called “Fake Kisses.” And we’re now convinced that The Big Sleep may be in the running for the coveted “loudest band in NYC” title.

mp3: The Big Sleep – “Murder”

mp3: Unsacred Hearts – “Somewhere Deep In NYC”

The Secret Life Of Sofia Back From Tour

June 21st, 2006 | 1 Comment | Posted in the secret life of sofia, tours

The Secret Life Of Sofia
(Drawing by Bryan Bruchman)

The nice young men of The Secret Life Of Sofia just returned from a successful tour only to be attacked by the Subinev Robot Conversion Machine — we think it’s kinda like that giant computer the villainess falls into in Superman III — you know, she falls in and, for some reason, comes out looking like a robot or something, then, at the end, Superman crushes his glasses into a diamond with his bare hands and Richard Pryor thinks he can fly. We wonder if Eric can crush things into diamonds with his bare hands. Or maybe Kyle thinks he can fly.
