CMJ Preview: El Jezel

El Jezel

In case it hasn’t been obvious, one of the best things about this CMJ showcase we’ve set up for Saturday is that we’ve been able to include a lot of bands we’ve got to know pretty well over the years. And there are probably few bands we know better than El Jezel. When we first saw them many moons ago, they impressed us with their big guitar sounds and tight rhythm section — drummer Dan, for instance, is so precise yet thoughtful in his playing that we’re pretty much convinced he’s a robot that learned to be human.

We’ve said a lot about the band over the years, but what really gets us excited is when they have new recordings for us to wrap our ears around. These guys have developed a really great live show, so it’s always interesting to see how they manage to translate that to tape. Yes, tape — they’re recording on tape these days, we hear. So, please, do yourself a favor and head over to El Jezel’s MySpace page, where you can now hear “Champagne And Cold Coffee,” a track from the new full-length they’ve been working on over at the Serious Business recording studio.

El Jezel will be playing at the StereoactiveNYC/Hot Rocks Party Official CMJ Showcase on Saturday, October 20th at The Delancey in NYC. The event is co-sponsored by DigitalFreedom.org.
