Live Wednesday: A Family Holiday Benefit

Family Records has put together a compilation of holiday songs — both classic and original, all newly recorded — by a roster of local artists. Proceeds from sells will be donated to 826NYC, “a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting students ages 6-18 with their creative and expository writing skills, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write.” Among the artists featured on the album are StereoactiveNYC favorites El Jezel and Hot Rocks Party veterans Flying Machines (aka The Attorneys).
In September 2007, a group of prominent NYC musicians were invited to cover the seminal ’80s classic “Feed the World (Let Them Know It’s Christmastime).” Two dozen performers congregated at the Serious Business Studios in Soho and, over two days, in the sweltering heat, pumped out an amazing version of the BandAid tune.
Head over to El Jezel’s MySpace page to hear their original Christmas song, “Working On Christmas,” and the Benefit’s MySpace page to hear a selection of songs by some of the other artists and to order the album.
