We recently caught a band at Union Hall called Wintersleep who hail from Halifax, Nova Scotia. Now, we’ve never been to Halifax, but if Wintersleep is indicative of what we might expect to find there in terms of a music scene, we are totally interested in checking it out. These guys sounded great — a really big sound with no excess, loud in all the right places and well aware of when to back off and let their sound just sort of linger for you to take it in. Gold Streets is a a band we’ve seen and heard many times now. And on Friday, at Brooklyn’s Union Hall, they were especially in top form. There was something about the sound at the venue that night that particularly showcased their rather broad, impressive dynamic range — just as capable of playing hard and forceful as laid back and delicate. Gold Streets is playing three shows in Austin this week, including one official SXSW showcase. They’ll be playing again in NY in April, as well as premiering a new music video. Check out their MySpace for details.
