We were happy to have one of our favorite bands, El Jezel, play at the most recent Hot Rocks Party. They’re a band comfortable mixing newer and older material into their sets, so it’s always interesting to hear the way the songs contrast and compliment each other in different combinations and contexts. As we’ve said previously, we’re really looking forward to their second full-length album, which they’ll thankfully be unleashing soon. And, hey, you can head to the StereoactiveNYC MySpace to hear, “Monument Valley,” an exclusive preview track. Here are some photos from the band’s set, with more available on Flickr:

El Jezel will be playing again on April 23rd at Rehab (formerly Club Midway).

This past weekend’s Hot Rocks Party featured Rowboats closing out the live music portion of the evening. They’re a band with a well-crafted, infectious sound. Perhaps what’s most enjoyable and impressive is the way they unabashedly flirt with certain pop sensibilities without seeming to cater to those tendencies, always seeming to weave in a slightly dark element that takes the music down a wholly interesting and inventive path.
