“All of the stories on Seven Summits are at least partly true. Some are completely true, and were told to me firsthand. Some are more like historical fiction.” - Kyle Wilson
Obviously, it’s not possible to objectively quantify the quality of any piece of music. But if counting the number of times an album is able [...]

Man In Gray has announced that they will be going on indefinite hiatus starting in July. Before that, they’ll be playing two shows. The first is this Saturday, May 31st, at Don Pedro in Brooklyn and will be shot for a documentary being put together about Brooklyn bands. Their final show will be June 19th [...]

El Jezel has a new album out this week, which they’ll be celebrating with a show at Crash Mansion on Friday. In anticipation of this, they’ve just released a new music video and a free digital EP on their newly relaunched website.
The music video is for “Champagne And Cold [...]

Boy Genius is a band we’ve seen live a few times now. Between those shows and their EP, Eureka, which we’ve been enjoying, we’d say their sound is most reminiscent of the excellent New Zealand band The Bats or Yo La Tengo’s first album, Ride The Tiger. Kristie Redfield is a talented woman. This we already knew, having seen her perform with two great bands in recent years. But reminders are always welcome, as was her performance this past Saturday in Jackson Heights featuring George and Jessica Flanagan of El Jezel, as well as Alex Lipsitt on drums. Here are some photos, [...]

The Unsacred Hearts don’t play many shows these days — something we hear may thankfully change come the fall. But when they do, they put everything into it, which is why we’ve long found them to be among the most entertaining bands in the city. Their show on Friday night at The Delancey was a [...]
