Photos: Aldenbarton at The Delancey // plus mp3

Aldenbarton plays a certain brand of indie power-pop that requires an amount of skill and charm that not every musician is capable of exhibiting, no matter their level of talent. So it’s a good thing these guys are all excellent musicians with skill and charm to burn. Their sometimes/somewhat-retro sound, with its big rhythms and dramatic shifts, is played with a sincerity that stands in stark contrast to much of the ironic tendency seen and heard in many bands today. They’ll soon be releasing their first album, Exodus Of The Eldest, and we have an mp3:

“The Heir”

And here are some photos of the band at a recent show at The Delancey, with more available on Flickr:

Alden Barton is the next big thing in my book. Rarely do you hear band that’s so in touch with what other musicians and singers crave to hear. For the average listener the band delivers cool grooves and harmonies that put you in a thoughtful happy place. For musicians, Alden Barton takes you on a wild roller coaster ride of tempo and rhythmic changes that will surely blow your mind when you realize the intricacy of each movement. If you listen closely you can hear their brains coming together as one to create the sound that is Uniquely Alden Barton. I really enjoy these guys and can’t wait to hear them again.
