2009 Releases: The Antlers – Hospice

We’re now a full three months through 2009 and there have already been a number of really great releases by some of our favorite artists. We’d like to highlight these, starting here with the Antler’s Hospice
Hospice is something of a concept album. Through all the slow builds and sudden crescendos, the tonal shifts and breaks, what’s clear is that Peter Silberman, with the help of some very talented compatriots, has set his very own literature to music. What’s perhaps most interesting about it is that, even with most of the subject matter being of a morose nature, there are moments that play as contrastingly uplifting, which really reveals the complexities at work throughout the album. Whether Hospice proves to be a breakout success for them or not — which very well could happen, and deservedly — it, without a doubt, cements the Antlers as one of the most impressive artists currently making music in the city, and one of our favorites.
